Twenty Days?!?

When did this happen? I was going to make all of our Christmas gifts this year, and lots of ornaments and all kinds of other wonderful crafty things! Now I'm running out of time and have, umm, one gift made so far. But I will do what I can. More important things are happening right now. A family medical crisis had arisen, and I am needed. So I will do my best to make Seth's first Christmas a wonderful one, but this year is all about family. I am not making anything else for my Etsy shop. What is there will sit for now, but I do not have the time to devote to promoting it or making more while also running my photography business, and being a full time mom, and making (and yes, probably buying some) Christmas gifts, and now trying to help my family through what is bound to be an extremely difficult time.

And if you are someone who prays, and if you're someone who doesn't usually, please do so for my mother-in-law, Jackie, and for the many people who love her.

My New favorite Shoes

I just submitted a review of these sandals at Simpleshoes.com, and I wanted to mention here how much I love them. This a great company that makes eco-friendly shoes that are comfortable and very stylish. Definitely not frumpy hippy shoes at all! Their sale prices are spectacular too. I got some soft soled early-walker shoes for Seth, and I am planning to get a pair of their TOEst boots for thewinter months for myself. Worth checking out, for sure.

Here's my review:

To Dye or Not to Dye....

I read an article or two online yesterday about handdying yarn, and now I am just itching to try it. I would love to be able to offer items made from yarn that I handpainted myself- how cool. I have also been interested for a while in batik and tyedyeing, so you can see where this is going. Sometime in the future I am going to place too large an order with Dharma Trading Company, and I'm going to end up with dyeing projects all over my house to add to the yarn and beads and whatnot. I am just interested in far too many things- I barely have time to devote to what I do already. Ah well, it will be fun :)

I'm still working on my mesh bag. I am making the holes smaller than last time, so this one is taking a bit longer.

A Hat This Morning

Last night after dinner with my husband's parents, I was reminded that Seth and I are going to the first birthday party of one of many Miami cousins on that side of the family. I hadn't given any thought to a gift, but decided to whip up a hat for the little guy. I did most of it this morning, and I am pretty happy with the end result. It looked very cute on Seth, though he wouldn't keep it on long enough for me to get a picture for you. Maybe I'll get one of the birthday boy in it this Saturday.

My next project is a mesh bag. The idea, in the most basic sense, is from the last one I made, from this great pattern, but I am changing it dramatically. At some point I may post my pattern here, but for now I am tweaking and experimenting and will offer them for sale in my Etsy shop and probably some craft fairs (which I do hope to get involved with in the next year or so!)
Here is a photo of the work in progress:

Because I can never just focus on one project at once, I am already daydreaming about my next one, which I will be inventing from scratch. I want to make a small purse, sort of a satchel I guess, with a long strap that can be worn across the body or over one shoulder. It will button closed and I have this beautiful yarn to use for it:

I also need to get working on more jewelry to list on Etsy when I open again. I have ideas, but since we moved I haven't taken down my beading supplies because I'm not quite sure how I'll contin them when I do. I used to work on the floor when Seth just layed in one place and played with his hands (i.e. the good old days). Now that I have a crawler who puts everything in his mouth I need to make sure both the beads and the baby will be safe from one another. But I will get there...
